Whistling sound
Well that's the thing I'm NOT out of warranty. I bought the car as a demo an as part of that I got the 100k mile extended warranty. I have 90k on the car. They keep telling me about how rare this happens and so on. Than why on earth would they not cover it?
Yup it's time to call Volvo!!

Dude, sounds like someone is blowing smoke you know where. Just call Corpo and tell them the deal and you will furnish paperwork with the warranty! I bet 5 bucks they will slap that dealer straight into fixing it!
Hi Sorry if I hi-jack your thread, don't mean to... I am trying to determine if the "whistling" sound I am hearing recently is the same thing you are hearing.
I have a '04 s60 2.5t, and when I am running between 60-70 mph, I am hearing what sounds like someone blowing across the top of beer bottle. It's was originally intermittent, with no noticeable correlation to other conditions, but now it's more frequent, and will start when off throttle at speed above, but will increasing in volume when stepping on the throttle, once I get past ~70-75, it will usually go away.
Can you describe what you were hearing? Anyone else have any thoughts?
Please let me know if I should move to another thread.
Thanks!
Mike

That my friend is the $2,000.00 question! I'm not sure... I have called a couple places that I have been referred to. But that is as far as I have gotten. I'm open to suggestions!
Alright so here is the latest. The car is currently at an independent Volvo specialist... The good news is that he thinks the turbo is fine.
he said that the PCV hose is cracked in half and something about the pcv housing (sorry can't remember exactly what he said) or that it could be a bad waste gate, maybe water pump. All better than turbo problems!! I believe this because I still feel and hear the turbo working.
On a side note how can Volvo just say... Yep it's a bad turbo!! Thank you very much that will be $2000.00.

Resurrecting this oldie. How was this resolved? My GF's V40 is a high miler and has this whistling racket. Unrelated, so far I've replaced all the motor mounts, the timing belt set & VVT gear, found a torn hose from the intercooler to the idle air valve and done it's scheduled major maintenance. The whistle sounds to me like it's boost related, but I can't find the source. Knowing the resolution on this would really help.. THX!

Good luck!
Haven't tried that, I'll give it a go and report. This is my GF's V40. Service records indcate the PCV trap, etc. was replaced about 25k miles ago.
Thanks! By manifold do you mean the intake manifold? The whistling does appear to be turbo pressure related, rises & falls as one accelerates, etc. I found a completely torn idle air hose and was sure that was the source of the whistling noise,. The hose goes from the top of the intercooler to the idle air valve port, but turned out not the issue.
I tried removing the dipstick and driving it. The whistling didn't change, so we'l assume the PCV system a repaired as the service history claims and is OK. I'll look into the exhaust manifold gaskets.
Intuitively it seems like the noise would be on the presure side of the turbo.
