Default 01 2.4T ETM issues

Let's start in the begging of course.

I have a 2001 S60 2.4T.
Most parts are original and haven't been replaced unless I did it.

I have some friends in a Volvo club who can use VIDA. We determined the white label ETM needed to be replaced. (Symptoms of original ETM: high rev on initial startup suggesting it was receiving to much air)

I bought a used yellow label ETM and replaced the original. Used a new gasket, reconn'd everything etc. It then ran ragged, with a horrible idle, sputtering when stopped around 800 rpms. We ran VIDA, and she couldn't even locate the yellow label ETM, as if it didn't exist. We presumed it was a bad part. The seller swore up and down it was good and wouldn't refund my money.

I then used eBay to buy another yellow label, remanned ETM from what appeared to be a reputable parts seller, high ratings etc. It came out of an 02 S70 (which I think he meant S60 since there is no 02 S70), 05 build. Looked and tested good on the bench through VIDA connected to the car, obviously. Part numbers matched as before. Processed and replaced - SAME OUTCOME; bad idle, sputtering, slightly better acceleration but still bad bad bad. It starts well and nice then turns into a sputter idle. VIDA reads 'non plausible request' ECM-913F.

At this point I was/am at a loss. I thought maybe such an old Volvo might need a software update, so I went and received Volvo's complimentary "Total CAN Update". Not a reload. It should have the same effect as paying for a software update according to Volvo.

STILL no change. It still idles bad/sputters, funky acceleration, sputtering.

-It was never this bad until I took the original ETM out.
-I have a Dash message of "Gear Selector Reduced" and only got the message after the first replacement.
-Can't use cruise for obvious reasons.

Any advice, please.
Am I buying bad parts?
Am I overlooking something?
How is it still sputtering?

If you put the original ETM back in does it go back to the high idle on start up but normal drive?

ECM-913F means ETM has bad software. Incompatible with ECM.
So you need to reprogram ETM.

Are you sure? The ETM giving the code is a yellow label. I didn't think they needed a reload.

Yellow label means the original ETM it was replaced.
I'm sure 100% because I do programming them.

I second this. Try an ETM Reload
