'02 S60 229,000 miles...need advice
I've owned this car since '05 when I bought it with 32,000 miles on it. It's been a solid car and well maintained, but it looks as though my luck has run out on the transmission as it is starting to slip, even after a complete flush and B4 servo cover replacement. I use this car for work and drive about 20K per year. I'm not comfortable dumping $4K into a rebuild/replacement transmission when the rest of the car is likely going to continue to eventually fail.
Should I sell as is, part it out, or what other options? My son would love it but I'm afraid it would be a money pit. Appreciate anyone's advice.
Thanks,
Rick

It all depends on how you feel about the rest of the car, but I agree $4K is probably too much to risk. LKQ, a major salvage parts distributor currently has a trans for an '02 S60 with 69K miles on it for $575 + $175 freight. That should get you out of the shop for ~$1500. Now consider what $1500-2000 buys you for a used car and compare that to what you know about your car and it may make sense to go that route. LKQ is reputable and the trans comes with a guarantee so the risk would be minimal. Just an idea. Otherwise at $4K you are within $1000 of a really well kept under 150K mile replacement. I bought my '02 9 months ago for $4700 with 140K on it in very nice condition with full service records.

I think you got your own answer in the question.
You will most probably need a complete transmission rebuild
There are people doing it
Otherwise, getting one from a scrap yard is hard since most that year had issues of same kind.
