04 AWD Rear wheel bearings
So i took my noisy snows off the car and found the car was still noisy! Sounded like it was coming from the left rear wheel area- louder when i turned to the right- so i thought for sure it was the left rear hub. Ordered a new hub from FCP Euro and got it overnight. Pulled the old hub off the next day. it was rusty and kinda hard to turn over. I though for sure this was it...went out for a test ride and the noise was still there....back to FCP for ANOTHER hub. this time i changed the right rear. even though the noise sounded like it was coming from the left. Now the car is very quiet! The funny thing is that when i had the old right rear hub in my hands, it spun freely and didn't feel like there was any issue with it at all. So the one that was hard to turn didn't make ANY noise, and the one that was easy to turn was making ALL the noise. by the way my car has only 60k on it! Maybe this helps somebody!
I have never had an All Wheel Drive Car. Usually with s60's when you hear noises on the front end when turning it is control arm bushings. Or in some cases depending on the mileage it might the the subframe bushings.
Again I am not 100% sure. I have replaced the front control arms on my 02 s60 front wheel drive. And have no idea about the rear control arms and if they would even differ on an all wheel drive car.
I got inserts from IPD for the subframe bushing. I plan on installing them this weekend. Since my car has 170k on it. You can youtube that probably. Anyways, I hope maybe this might atleast give you two things to consider.
I am also not 100% sure on the back end of the car. But some times the rear end links wear out (the rubber part). Also could be an axle problem but with my limited problem I think you would hear that all the time.
Anyways, I hope that gives you a few things to look at and hopefully find the problem.
