2001 S60 Brake
I was told by a local machanic that I need to have the front end brakes and rotors change and brake flush service. Turns out he gave me a quote for $500. I have read some posts that I don't need to change the rotor? Is $500 a reasonable price? I wonder did anyone done it at the dealer? How much does it really cost? I am very doubtful of what the mechanic told me, because I feel the brake still working perfectly. If I bring my S60 to dealer for a brake check, do they charge me?

When the rotors get to a Min. spec they need to be changed. If they are at the Min. now you will need to replace them. They still may feel good but may be getting unsafe at the same time.
I believe it should be around $350.00 or so for the pad and rotor change.

If you are doubting that your mechanic is being truthful, you can always pull one of the front wheels off and look at the brake pad to see how much is left. Measuring the rotor might be a little harder since you need a micrometer to do so. Or you could always take it to a second shop to get another opinion.
Is there no wear line on Volvo rotors? I know on a lot of cars that there is a line on the rotor that when the rotor is beyond minimum spec it disappears. 500 dollars is about 250 more than I would be willing to pay. I of course do all my own work. But for 500 and about 2 hours of your time you could have this whole job done with mintex pads and gas slotted rotor front and rear. .
The Machanic told me that they will use the volvo parts (Very doubtful!)
Front end brake pad + rotors + brake fluid flush =$500!
I'd check with another machanic or just bring it to Volvo Dealer.
