Question 2001 S60 "stop neutral" feature??

I just bought a 2001 Volvo s60 2.4t with almost 109k miles. One thing I notice is that when I come to a complete stop and then accelerate again, the car hesitates/jerks slightly. It is not a lot, definitely doesn't clunk or anything but I think it is the "stop neutral" feature. I have heard this can be damaging to the transmission when the car gets high in miles. Should I have the feature disabled at this point to save my transmission? I literally bought the car yesterday....maybe they will be nice and upgrade the software for free.

The other thing that happened was that my car had been sitting outside for awhile, not running or anything for at least half an hour when all the sudden i heard the a/c kick on full blast inside the car. It stopped when I got in and turned the car on. What the heck was that?

Thanks for the tips/advice in advance

After reading a bit about the 2001 models transmissions, I am starting to panic. The service records are really great, but don't say anything about replacing the transmission. Should I bring the car back and get my money back before its too late? Help!

Software free, I highly doubt it. This may help though.

Afterblow feature turns a/c fan on to cool interior every so often, it is normal, but can be turned off, not recommended.

The jerk happens in my 2001 2.0T S automatic. I'm new to automatics so I assumed it was pretty normal. Didn't know it was something that could be disabled, next time I go to a dealership I'm gonna get a number of things changed, software-wise.

Actually the fan doesn't come on to cool the interior. It comes on to remove condensation and prevent mildew build up.

In my '06 owner's manual, one sentence tells that the a/c fan may come on up to 1/2 hour after the car is stopped to remove condensation. It doesn't explain why the odd, battery-draining feature is needed, however. Sounds like the '01 has the same equipment. I guess Volvo batteries like abuse. Same thinking must go into the lack of "ACC" position on ignition switch so that the interior fan is always "on" unless you manually shut it off. Some of us here may from time to time listen to radio while parked, but heaven forbid you forget to turn the fan to "off".

There are lots of comments here about '01 and reprogramming to remove the neutral stop from auto trans. Don't know how much it will cost, however. I suppose its lots cheaper than a new transmission.

Read these older comments. Apparently, neutral stop was 01 and 02 only "innovation". http://www.volvoxc.com/forums/archiv...hp/t-1963.html

On those cars around 2001 the neutral stop was a bad design and volvo knew it. they created a software to remove it and it does a fairly descent job. If the trans is worn enough though you may have to replace it. Id try to have a dealer remove that function. They have the Software number

This thread seems to be old, but I thought I'd try to toss my hat into the convo. I Have an 01 S60 2.4T that seems to have the problem discussed here. Did getting rid of the 'Stop Neut' program fix the problem? I'm up late sweating while reading about all these ETM replacements. Just curious if this solved the problem. Responses appreciated!
