Default 2004 S60 2.5T - Turbo problem?

I've got a 2004 S60 2.5T with 79K miles. I've had it for about a year. Within the past month or two I've begun to notice an intermittent problem during acceleration. If I press the gas gently and accelerate slowly, no problem. However, when I accelerate hard - e.g., when merging with highway traffic - the car "stutters" quite hard until I let up on the gas. Kind of difficult to describe the experience precisely, but given the circumstances under which it appears I'm wondering if it's not a problem with the turbo not engaging properly. Any thoughts?

Sounds like this could very well be what's behind my little problem. Two questions: First, as long as I'm driving gently enough not to trigger the turbo, is there any risk of my damaging anything by driving for a few days until I can get an appointment at the shop? Second, any guesses on how much I'm looking at to get this replaced? The part itself doesn't look too expensive, but it's hard to tell with these kinds of things...

In any case, thanks for the quick, helpful response!

no risk of damage even if you are gunning it, and paying someone else to replace this makes baby jesus cry.

order it from IPD and it will come with VERY detailed instructions.

Basic hand tools and a tiny tiny tiny bit of confidence and you can replace it yourself.

100 bucks to your door and LITERALLY 10 minutes of your time
or
250-300 installed at a shop

dont be a sucker - car stuff is FAR easier than mechanics make it seem because if you figure out how easy some things are you will eat into their profit margin.
