Since nobody has been able to ever answer this question, seemingly, I figured it out and will post so everyone knows.

First off, the bulb type is W5W, I know this because I just replaced it.

Secondly, the correct way to get at the bulb is incredible simple and fool proof. You will see a hole on the underside of the mirror housing near the puddle light, insert a 90 degree angled pick tool such as seen in this picture to the far left http://g03.a.alicdn.com/kf/HTB1bCUNG...Xq6xXFXXXN.jpg

You will insert it just enough and push the end against the puddle lamp housing on the inside, this will release the tab and push it down towards the ground. You will now notice that the opposite end (towards front of car) is what it hinges on. One of mine gave me more trouble than the other, simply get another pick tool or tiny flat end screwdriver to wiggle the sides free gently or to apply more pressure to the lock tab that you now see that you are pushing on with the pick tool, except this time not from the hole as it should be partially exposed but from the outside.
