Default 2006 S60 2.5t, is it a good base car to mod?

Hi my name is Brandon and i recently bought a s60! Well originally i was suppose to have a 2006 black Saab 9-3 aero 6 speed manual but b/c of GM the faulty electronics wouldnt let it start So the dealer helped us swap for a silver s60 2.5t awd automatic, about 135,000 miles. Its a nice car, not as perfect as the saab but its lovely(this is coming from a child of a mother and father who own 2 volvos for the past 14 years!) My dad(he drives a 2006 black s60R) suggests to opt for the ipd ecu flash which is great performance wise. But what i want to know is the limit of the car. Its an auto(might do a manual swap in the future) so how much horsepower can the auto manage before giving out? Whats the whole P2 chassis horsepower limit? Is it worth upgrading because performance modifications cost more on an edm vs a jdm. Thank you for your help and suggestions volvo community!
Edit: i know the different packages, mostly going for ipd but what i need to know is the car itself and a few tips about volvos, im not super knowledgeable

I've had an 06 2.5T for several years with the older EST (RICA) tune. I don't think this product is available any longer, but I wouldn't hesitate to recommend a similar tuning product for the 2.5T. The automatic (Aisin Warner) tranny has held up fine, and I've done multiple drain & fill fluid changes since purchasing the car. I've also added a 3" downpipe which further improves the spool-up time and boost level.

I'm not sure what the actual HP is, but I have the chance to drive a BMW 328i on a regular basis and the S60 feels stronger in most every area. With a tune and full IPD suspension upgrades, I'm not sure that the Volvo S60 might really be the ultimate driving machine.

The limits is 300hp without any engine changes.. Most stage 1 ECU tunes take your car 208hp to 245hp+- . Now add in a FMIC, Catback Exhaust,3"downpipe and a 16t turbo upgrade.. All very easy DIY Mods you can with the right Viva Performance(Rica), IPD (MTE) or Elevate(AutoTech) tune stage 2-3 get very close to that 300hp #.. GL

twowheelin and mys6t, thank you for your responses! But the upgrades stated are everything but the engine block itselft right?? Thought i could squeeze a little more out of the s60 but then again if i want a fast car i shouldve found one that already has the punch. How about swapping turbos for a t5? would that make any difference?

The 16t i suggested is the Turbo from a T5. The 16t for s60 t5 or v70 t5 from 02+ . The 850 16t from 02- has the coolant and oil feed on the wrong sides. Just be careful with this if you buy one. Many guys end up with a turbo that need to have ports blocked and re-ported to get it to work.
The stock block and internals of the LPT or maxed out at 300hp.

Remember with out a proper ECU tune anything you do will gain 0 HP .

ARD is the newest company to join the Volvo ECU tuning world. 1999-2009 . Working with a tuner for the start of your build is a great help.

Volvo & Saab Performance Parts & Accessories: ViVA Performance works with RICA they and Viva are proven company's and offer great Tunes and mods..

Good info in here. Although my car has only 208hp, it sure feels alot more with the trq'y 5 cyl motor. I'm pretty impressed as is.
