2007 s60 2.5T diagnosis help
Bought the car used 2 months ago and had no problems except for slow starting.
Took the car to a shop that has worked on our s40 2.4s.
They replaced the Fuel Pump and Sender.
When I take the car home it drives okay but slowly it starts stuttering when the car is stopped or accelerating.
When entering a highway onramp the car turbos up fine but at around 4000rpms the power drops off completely, but continues to run if not accelerating. The car may intermittently stutter just a little bit when at 75mph on highway. Any tries to accelerate force a shutdown of power at lower and lower rpms until around 2500.
Then I am looking for a slower road to take the car back to the shop and rolling down a 25mph exit ramp the car stalls and I roll to a stop.
I let the car sit for a few minutes and restart the car.
It starts fine by now is not happy going 35-45 mph.
I slowly get up to 55mph accelerating very slowly over a few miles.
The car gets sluggish like this every time I take it home and test drive it.
I have bad tinnitus so sounds cannot be heard, I feel more than I hear.
I get codes of P0089 and P0087 when this happens.
I have read around this site and am curious about what happens when a turbo goes out.
Or if it could be the Oil Trap?
None of these symptoms happened until the shop replaced the Fuel pump and sender. Now 3 times and possibly a 4th.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

it's possible that your oil seperator commonly referred to as the box which is located underneath the manifold is getting clogged with carbon build-up, my box was so bad that after a while the car just kept stalling, I replace the box and my car runs just fine. The oil seperator box cost about $70 not sure if your able to do the work yourself in not you will need to pay for about an 1 1/2 worth of labor....I am not saying this IS your problem but sounds like the beginning of your box getting clogged and the car not being able to breath, change all the hoses when you change the box as well! good luck and repost let us know if you have found out what the problem is!
I will keep "the box" in mind if it continues to act up when accelerating. I had heard about an "Oil box" I guess that must be the same since you mentioned "carbon" and clogging up.
I guess my wife's car will be mine until I prove it worthy of her again.
Volvo shop looked it over and they believe that the putting in of the the new fuel pump knocked some grunge into the gas tank and contaminated it. Possibly bad gas mentioned, but I think when the seal of the tank was broken all this bad stuff started to happen. They say it runs fine now, but I have not driven it. Would be nice if that is all it was.
I appreciate everyone who posts here even if the answer is simple, so that us Volvo newbs can know what to do and what NOT to do.
With 2 Volvos non-turbo and one with turbo I have to pay attention to everything now.
Thanks again.

They said it was not the oil box. I hope they actually checked it.
I have returned this car twice to Volvo Dealer shop and shelled out $1300.
Car has not improved after replacing Air & Fuel filter or dropping and cleaning gas tank or replacing the fuel pump.
I not a very happy camper right now.
I talked to the service manager and seems willing to fix it right with no excuses or cost at this point.
New codes that I have picked up since the bevy of P0087 & P0089 codes all the time are P2177 and P0191.
Volvo shop said they would get to the bottom of this; I sure hope so.
I am suspecting MAF/O2 problems may be the culprit.
I just want it fixed.

The new fuel pump has fixed the accelerating problem.
Now I seem to have a rough idle and the engine does not just fire up.
You turn the key and it turns twice then starts.
Sounds like ... Errrah ... Errrah ... Vroom. (Is this normal?)
Another strange sound ... when initially driving around there is a scraping friction sound that sound like a cat trapped in a box coming from the area of the glove box, but muffles like it is under the hood. Weird. It stops after driving about 10-15 minutes.

Did you find out what this sound was? I had the axel replaced on my 2007 volvo s60 2.5t FWD two years ago... they say the current squealy/metal/chirpy sound is a cracked boot on the axel which of course is no longer under warranty and recommended to replace the entire axel.

As well I have the p0089 code fault and was told it was the fuel pressure sensor (bad idling and intermitten rough start.) Had timing and spark plugs changed just last year. They say also a bad camshaft sensor code is popping up intermittently p0027. I looked but don't see a part for a fuel pressure sensor only a regulator and am wondering if that is actually what I need and how easy it is to change. The part locally is 142 for the "sensor" plus .4 hours labour and the camshaft sensor part is priced at 210 plus .7 hours labour- I found these parts for 1/3 of the price on FUEL PRESSURE REGULATOR for 2007 Volvo S60|9186278 and am wondering if I can do them myself.
I service my car regularly but my mechanic things I'm crazy as I bring it in all the time at the first sign of trouble. I drive it like a grandma too. I'm wondering if these sensors are even broken or just dirty as I've noticed that there is a lot of dirt, water stains, and what looks like oil on parts that wasn't there last year? Is there a cleaner I can use in my fuel to see if that clears us the pressure sensor/regulator or is that a no no?
Also does anyone know, after changing sensors, etc... do you need a software update?
