2011 S60 Blower fan Replacement
Hello all. This is my first post and hoping someone has run into this before. I searched but did not find much on this. Wife drives a 2011 S60 T6 and loves it. Blower fan is beginning to squeak at low speed settings (not really audible at high fan speeds). Dealer wants a boatload of money to replace since it calls for 7 hrs of labor as the dash needs to come off. Google searching I've found a thread that claims the housing for the motor is held in with 5 torque type screws 4 that easily come out after removing the glove box and kick panel but the rearmost one is not accessible without removing the dash. However they claim that the corner tab of the housing held by that rearmost screw can easily be snapped (broken) and then the housing easily comes out, the new motor can be mounted back in and the housing put back with 4 screws with a little silicone where the 5th screw and tab was without any ill effects, bringing the entire job down to less then an hour. Was wondering if anyone here has gone this route and what their experience was doing this. Appreciate the help, thanks.
Got hold of non-dealership Volvo mechanic who works for way less money. Met with him a couple of days ago. He refuses to cut corners and will not break that one housing tab to turn it into a much shorter job and will instead drop the dash to do it correctly. Got a deal on a genuine volvo blower fan online and will have him complete the work in a about a week or so at about half the cost of what the stealership wanted.
For sure. There are many after market options, most about 65% cheaper then OEM with varying degrees for reliability. Behr-Hella had a good reputation for aftermarket components but recently has been having some quality issues. Remember, yours is not the 2011+ S60 and the mounting and procedure is not the same so you would not be doing this in 40 min.
