Default Anerobic Sealant question

I have a 2005 Volvo S 60 T5. Which surface is the best to put the annerobic sealant, the top cover surface, or, the top head surface, or, both. Could someone pleas advise me on this, Thanks.

Hi James,
Put it on the head only. Be very careful to put the cover on Even Steven so the cover makes contact all at once. Count the turns on each screw so that they squeeze the liquid gasket even. Let the gasket set.. then finish tight all screws. It's inconvenient to let the gasket set but important. That's how "liquid gasket" said to to it.

I am using the draw down tool to install the cover but once I get it all the way down I can start putting some of the screws in in strategic places to add to what I've already got, especially on the 1 and 5 cylinders The tool will be on cylinders 2 and 4. I will put as many as I can in then let it set. Then put the final ones in after I remove the draw down tool.

I just noticed that the Haynes repair manual says put the annerobic sealant on the cam cover only. Now I'm even more confused. Please, let me hear your comments. Thanks.

I put it on the head and it worked fine. But I would follow the manual and instructions on the gasket maker. Don't stress it'll be fine
