Default AWD not working

I just bought a 2003 S60 AWD a couple of weeks ago and the AWD system deosn't seem to be working, just the front wheels. It has 66,000 miles on it, what would be the most likely cause? Thanks in advance.

I have the same issue ! Happened about 3 months ago. 2003 s60 AWD 63k on it. I'm afraid to take it to the dealer. I tried justanswer.com and the money i depostied disappeared. I had a mechanic answer me and when i tried to give him some money my account was empty and looks like he did not get it either. Regardless, he said that sometimes it may be as simple as a faulty sensor. My dash computer indicates no issues. I pluged in one of the generic ODB2 code reades, but my computer reported no data (maybe I'm not using right) All i know the mechaninc that I called at Volvo said it will be very expensive (this was at 58k) said power train warranty dont cover it !!?? He said I either killed the rear transfer box or the computer in the rear is shot. I'm pretty miffed. I take care of the vehicle and now that we have all this snow here in Mass I have a stupid front wheel drive car ? Not sure what else to check ? Hoping to get an answer here. Any input would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you,

Julian

There is a pressure sensor for the rear differential that will cause this problem.
It is a pretty easy/ cheap repair. What i got so far....

There is a fuse that can disable the AWD.
Check fuse number 17 (7.5 amps)in the rear fuse panel.

Checked the fuses in rear. both 7.5v look good. Did not replace. I was told it is a sensor that needs replacement.
so Miffed, bad timing in this snow crap !
