Default Car Sticking in Park

My dad's 01' s60 sticks in Park after initial start. He has an auto transmission and in order to shift to D or R, he has to either shake the wheel, tap the brake, or a combination of things. I tried searching but couldn't find any info. Possible solenoid (location??), brake booster, safety feature..........kind of at a lost and don't want to surrender to the stealership.

Also, is there a chilton's/haynes/bentley's for he S60? I can only find electronic manuals on Ebay and possibly alldatadiy. Thanks in advance.

May be the cable between the ignition lock and the shift lever.Ever spill anything over your shifter? It could make the mechanism stick.

if you run out of options, go to dealer to do a diagnostic on transmission. you may need to reset transmission soft.

No they've never spilled in there to my knowledge. Looks like I'll have to disassemble the shifter assembley to further investigate the reverse lock solenoid or the ingition interlock cable. Does anyone have pics or diagrams?

weather changing, getting colder. I am experiencing trouble when shifting fromP into R. key isalso getting stuck in ignition. bulb light failure code appeared a couple days ago then the key stayed stuck permantly and the brake light andtail lights stayed stuck on . I assume there is a problem with the TSS solenoid or ignition barrel is ****!!!!!

ah this has been my nightmare for about 2 months now... the same exact problem as above..

i put the key in and 90% of the time it takes more than 25 mins for the car to be able to shift into park. and once it does.. everything works fine.. then once i park i cant get the key out with out waiting 15-25 mins and today the battery died for the 2nd time in under a month..

has any one found the solution for this problem?

I would check the adjustment of the cable from the ignition switch to the shifter assembly.
You might also want to spray a little silicon or something like that on the arm where the cable attaches to the shifter assembly.
