Default Check engine light on....car running cool

I have a 01 S60 2.4T. The check engine came on and I noticed that the car is running cool, the temp gauge is only like 1/3 way up (1 notch below middle) at the warmest. I'm thinking its the thermostat.....how difficult are these to change? Is it right there under the 90' elbow into the block from the radiator?

Yes it is on the engine where the Upper Rad. hose meets the engine. Remove the Torxes screws and replace the thermostat.

Also try to have the codes pulled to verify.

It is just above the hood release. You should see a panel that folds down.
