Default Check stop lamp

2012 Volvo S60 T5

I’ve seen a few threads on the “Check stop Lamp” message, but not many answers. My issue started 1 wk ago and I noticed 1 LED section out on my third light so I replaced it with a used one. All the LED lights worked on it then my left brake light went out. I just replaced all the bulbs in the rear and message will still not go out. Any ideas? Relay? Sensor? Switch? Anybody else have this? I don’t want to just throw parts at it. Thanks in advance. I have an appointment to take it in next Tuesday if I don’t figure it out.

If you have incandescent bulbs sometimes they need to be the same brand ( for the left and right) - and try to always use silver base bulbs versus the cheap gold base made in china bulbs.

Thank you for the reply. I went with Sylvania LED brake lights and replaced turn signals with with Sylvania 7507. Can’t remember the base on the LED but they were pricey. Still could be wrong though. They all work.

Thanks John

Using LED bulbs will cause that message.

interesting, well that’s any easy change to try. Are Sylvania bulbs considered quality?

The bulb out system is based on the amount of current each bulb uses - and LED bubs use very little - hence the bulb out warning

So far it’s fixed. I’m working today at the fire station, but I put new “regular “ bulbs in and stop lamp warning went out. Who Woulda thunk it. Geez. Anyway thank you all for the help!
