considering used 91 240, but the driver's seat!!
Hi, my mechanic found a 91 240 sedan I might wantto consider. My 86, which I've known and loved, is still in great shape, with 190,000, and going strong. But this 91 has only 120,000 and he's checked it out and updated the air. But a BIG problem is the driver's seat. I asked him about it (it's concave, horrible) and he said a big woman drove it. Has anyone had experience with getting a seat from a salvage shop, or maybe I could put my '86 seat into this 91? Anyone know? I can't imagine how to fix this one.
Also, has anyone driven an '86 AND a '91? Why does the '91 feel kind of tinney to me compared to my horse? Is it my imagination?
Thanks!

I think it might be your imagination on why it feels tinney compaired to yours.
The easy way to see if your seat will fit is to measure yours and see if it is the same as the 91.
Also if all else fails remove the seat cover and install foam and then reinstall the cover.
I have done this many times on alot of different cars. I did it on my 82 when I had it.

Thank you to you both. I'll look into a salvage & if I try the foam, where have you gone to get the foam & how do you get the shape for a seat? I have a wild imagination about what the car feels like, but none about how to make a new seat! I've never done anything like this to a car, let alone a sofa. Anything you can offer would be appreciated. Thanks again.

I just used a square peice that I got from an interior shop for cheap. When I pulled the seat cover tight it contored the foam. The trick is to find some that is fairly soft. Also there is a peice under the seat that is made out of wires and has springs that suspend the foam. They also go bad and fall apart.
I am usually the only one in my car, so I have reversed the seats{ switch the drivers seat for the passenger seat} I suspect when you take out your seat you will find the wires that suspend the cushion will be pulled loose.
