dealer says replace struts and mptor mounts
daughter took her 2002 s60 in for oil change. service manager says struts and shocks and upper and lower engine mounts need replacing, car has 80000 miles. any thoughts from anyone ?
Had my struts replaced a couple weeks ago on my '01 s40. Have 157,000 miles. Cost about $550. Haven't had shocks changed out yet.
never trust a shop that goes ahead and checks other parts on your car for free
no company does things for free they are just looking for a way to scam people out of money
80k miles they are probably still good
unless the car is shaking and bouncing all around don't touch them, check them out again when you hit 125k miles
and dont go to that shop anymore because they may very well break something to get you to have them fix it

Have the dealer show you the engine mounts. If there bad it's very obvious.
On a side note, my upper mount was completely shot at about 50k miles on my S60R.
Have them also show you the evidence that the shocks and struts are also needing replaced. It's not unheard of for the shocks and struts on the P2 cars needing to be replaced prior to 100k miles.
Second, where are you located? Check the link below for reviews on shops in your local area (if you located in North America).

My last suggestion is if for whatever you need to replace, get a quote with part numbers and order the parts yourself online and have an indie mechanic do the install if you can't do it yourself. You'll save a lot of money and the indie tech's can do just as good as a job as the dealer.
For OEM parts order them from TascaParts.com and also check out Volvo Parts, Accessories and Performance Specialist Since 1963 and Volvo Parts - OEM & Genuine Replacement Parts Online Catalog | FCP Euro for quality aftermarket and OEM parts.

thanks guy. i really appreciate your insight. car is in jacksonville, fla. i am in selma, al 440 miles away. i need her to have a reliable car for piece of mind. this is the 6th volvo between my wife and two daughters over the last 18 years. they are great cars as far as we are concerned. i just do not need a dealer taking advantage of a single woman. also had to replace front struts on other daughter's s60 back in 2009. wasn't too bad. i try to do what i can before paying some one else to do it. anyone replaced the upper and lower motor mounts? or do i need to let some one else do these?

Never replaced the lower mount but the upper is really easy to replace and should take you or even her all of about 10min. Check the link to Volvospeed that I posted to see if there's some local shops that have good reputations for being fair.
