Do I need new coil springs?
I've got an 02 S60 with about 200k miles. Never had struts or anything replaced. I went to get an alignment at a tire shop and they told me that I needed new struts and coil springs because the coils are way too close together. I took pictures of what the springs look like with the car on the ground. I know I need new struts for sure but I heard it's rare to have to replace the springs unless they are broken. Just not sure what normal springs are supposed to look like with the car on the ground.
If it was mine I would be doing springs, spring seats, upper mounts, struts, the whole 9 yards, assuming you intend to drive it another 50K+. There's a reason many cars have complete assemblies available, because if the OE makes it 150K+ then the springs aren't anywhere close to doing their job right anymore either.
