The door of the fuel tank doesn't lock!!!
Hi all,
I just found out that when I lock my car the door of the fuel tank doesn't lock. I dissembled the lock from the inside and when I tested it using a power converter at home, it worked for both locking and unlocking. It seems that the problem is a wiring issue because when the lock is installed in the car, it only unlocks . There are only two wires connected to the electric locker. I used a power checker (small equipment that tells you if there is electricity going or not) and when I unlock the car it gives me a signal that there is electricity on the wires and I could see the lock tries to unlock but when I lock there's just nothing. There's basically nothing wrong with the wires themselves but with the lock system. How to check the lock system and where is it?

RE: The door of the fuel tank doesn't lock!!!
thanx but the problem is not with the lock itself. when I unlock the car the lock unlocks but when I lock the car it doesn't lock. I remvoed the lock and tested it and it works perfectly.
Here's the lock after I removed it
I said before that there are 2 wires and when I unlock it works but when I lock it doesn't so it's niether from the lock nor from the wires. I know that my problem is diffecult but I'm hoping you could help me.
I think the problem is from the place that controls the locks or maybe it's a fuse!!!
Please help

Interesting problem. I initially thought a relay was the culprit as well. You say it unlocks with the rest of the car but does not lock. Suggests to me that it could very well be a bad locking relay. I remembered reading about the fuse panel located in the trunk (drivers side). I found a great diagram to help you locate the problem. See if its indeed the relay or perhaps a loose wire nearby.

locate RMI1 for the locking relay

That's my guess. Let us know your findings.

Thanx very much fast ride and billofdurham for this great support. I left my car at work today and tomorrow I'm going to it and I'll check the fuse panel and let's hope that it's just a fuse and not the entire locking system.
As soon as I check it tomorrow I'll post here.
Thanx again.

Before you spend more time digging through your car, check one more thing out. I spent a little time digging through VADIS. It seems that the fuel door has a delay built in. It waits 10 minutes before locking the fuel door assuming you lock the car using the key or remote (the switch on the doors may not do it). So try this out.

So you're saying that when I lock the car the locker of the fuel tank waits 10min to lock. That's very interesting because I never checked the fuel tank before I unlock the car so it may be the problem. By the way, I checked the fuses today and they are all ok. I'll to check if the fuel tank is locked or not next time I go to the car but If this is what you implied on your last post, is it the same in your car? I mean when you lock the car do you have to wait 10 min for the locked of the tank to work?
Cheers,

if that turns out the same with my car, then it would be hilarious!!! I never thought of that and I can't wait to check it because it's a very big issue for me to have the tank door opened all the time. I'll for sure post here after I check it.
Thanx fast ride and I really really appreciate your help.

RE: The door of the fuel tank doesn't lock!!!
Good stuff. One last post. I found this while looking for something else. It seems that the fuel door has an option (choice) to lock immediately. I assume it is a dealer SW change, but for anyone who cares:
from VADIS regarding Programmable Customer Parameters:
Time delay, locking the fuel tank filler cover
The time delay between the car being locked using a remote control or the key until the fuel tank filler cover locks can be programmed. There are two alternatives:
-10 minute time delay
-0 minute time delay.
The time delay when locking the fuel tank filler cover is programmed via the vehicle communication socket under function group 3, Central electronic module (CEM), Programming customer parameters.

thanks tocopan, you are correct on this. Models which have the remote fuel door release on the dash work in the way you have described. From the description that almared6 gave about his situation, I believe his car is like mine and does not have this button and the fuel door locks after 10 minutes.
