Default driving with low oil pressure - what can it cause?

hi to all.
I recently bought a s60 2.0 T 2002 model and the car was a few months in the store, not moving too much... When i was leaving store with the car, the low oil pressure was shown and i took a two miles to stop engine in my mechanic. The engine at this point started to make a litlle noise.

The oil level was ok, but was an old oil.

The mechanic said he would have to inspect the oil pump, but first. Just clean the old oil and change. At the beginning he said the motor runned smoothly after oil changing, but some minutes later, the low oil pressure light lit again.

His diagnostics was that the oil pump forced too much with an old oil and has to be replaced. He didn't give me a 100% chance to eliminate the problem... That the engine could present some faulty conditions.... Bat probably this pump replacement would solve my low oil pressure problem. Does any one has passed for this too? did I loose my engine? Till the pump arrives and mechanic put it all back to work I'm very aprehensive...
