Default emission and dipped beam failure

hi...just recived a message regarding "emission system service required"...looking for some guidance as to how to pull codes for this car...I try to do my own work, and do not want to take it to the dealer if at all possible..also , get dipped beam failure quite often and both headlights are out, i understand this could be a shunt at main computer under dash....wher exactly is the main computer under dash? ....

thanks alot you guys ...appreciate any help you could provide

Default RE: emission and dipped beam failure

Hi climber.
I once had the emissions warning go off in my car for a few days. It was strange because it showed up intermittently, mostly at cold startup. I figured it was due to poor gas. I let my car get close to empty then pumped in some shell premium with a bottle of fuel system cleaner. That got rid of the message. The car gets mostly regular gas now and I haven't seen the message for more than a year and a half. If yours persistsafter a few tanks, then you may need to start replacing parts.

As for the shunt, the computer is up under the dash to the left. I'll provide a link because I don't have first hand experience. The location of the shunt should be the same.
