FACTORY RADIO & SPEAKERS
First of all I have the HU-613 stereo in my 2001 S-60 2.4T. Is this the premiumstereo system? What brand of stereo is that and what brand are the factory speakers. One of my speakers in the rear drivers side door is rattling. I took the car to Circuit City and was told in order to change the one speaker out that I had to change all of the speakers and the radio. Was I being flimflamed, I think I was . How do you remove the cover on the door to get to the speaker. The guy at CC said the whole door panel had to be removed, Is this correct? Is there a way to hook a amp up to the stock system? Thanks for the replies! Mstrplmber
Circuit city guy's either full of $#!T or doesn't know $#!T.
You don't need to replace the Head unit unless you just want a better one. It functions just like any other stereo with 4 4ohm 25w channels. There's nothing funky about it that won't allow you to use non-volvo speakers.
First check to see if you already have the premium audio system by checking under the seat for an aftermarket amplifier. You'll also have a center channel speaker under the grill in your dash. If you don't have an amp already follow this linkthat shows you how to install an aftermarket one using line converters. If you do have an amp it's an easy switch. In the 800 series head units, the center channel speaker is powered by the HU and the rest of the speakers by the external amp. I'm not sure how the center channel is powered in the 613 with an external amp.
I've heard the speakers are made by dynaudio by some, alpine by others, and mitsubishi by others still. I'd either replace all the speakers at once with whatever you want, or go to the dealership/ebayto replace just 1. Yes you need to remove the whole door, but that's normal on most cars. It's not that difficult.

Thanks Flanimal I thought the guy a CC was just trying to sell me a completely new system. Could you elaborate on how to get the door panel off. Is the amp under the front or back seat. I would appreciate it. Thanks mstrplmber
That's what I thought, but I was on swedespeed and read a post from 2006 where the member emailed Volvo about upgrading the 613 and the rep emailed him back talking about the external amp and center speaker that could be added as a premium add-on. I'm guessing the rep either failed to mention or didn't know that the premium package actually has a different HU.

The speakers are manufactured exclusivly by Dynaudio. SOme of the best speakers ever made by far. Your best off replacing the speaker with a factory one. Itll be much better gauranteed than any of that junk they sell at CC. TRUST ME.
