Default Fog/Driving Light Question

Anyone know much about the driving or fog lights that the S60 had? I'm needing some driving lights that would fit in the factory spot. Are the replacement lights as good as the after market lights?

What model year is your S60? I just replaced my mine OEM H1 bulb (I think halogen type) to H1 Sylvania Silverstar. It is more brighther now. I even compared the halogen (originl bulb) and silverstar both installed. Big difference.

Hay,
Its a 2002 model. I'm hoping to find some small round driving lights to put in the place where they go.

im in the same boat. 02 with no fog lights, just the exposed holes where they go. I havent had the time, but I plan on looking around for cheap fogs that will fit nicely and wire them myself.

The expensive way would be to buy the volvo fog kit (install yourself) and have the dealer do their software thing and turn them on. The s60 is pre-wired for fogs, look under the bumper cover, you will see the plugs for them.

Hay,
Whats the software thing that you talked about? I don't think my car has a switch for the lights if I installed them even tho the wiring is there.

I did not know that 02 did not come with fog lights. I am not sure if 02 S60 has the switch. But it could be located on left hand side just beside fuel tank cover switch. One of our volvo cars an 04 S40 did not have fog light but have provision to install and have switch on left hand side just below the low beam headlights.

If the car did not come with Fogs it takes a Dealer visit and software change to get them to work. I believe that all 02+ S60 has the ability to run them..I think i read it $100 to get change made buy the dealer witch only allows switch if there to work Fogs..

It has a switch which turns on the rear fog light, maybe that also turns on the front lights as well ??

next to the rear fog button is a blank button panel. that is the spot for the front fogs (the switch is under there as well). Part of the volvo kit includes the actual button that goes there.

So the s60 comes pre-wired for fogs, including the switch, but lacks the physical button, relay, and the fog lights themselves if Im not mistaken. (edit, and lacks the software to turn them on)...

I asked a local Volvo shop (not dealer) and they thought it would be $500 apx to install the lights !!!
I'm in the wrong business

I asked about doing some aftermarket lights and this is what they said..

The car is a "network" car and very sensitive to add-ons so it might not work
with aftermarket lights. If I have to I'll run lights to the trunk with a seperate battery. I will have driving lights without spending $500

I'm leaning towards a total seperate driving light install, the only connection would be to the battery itself..why would this not work ? Surely this car is not smart enough to detect that there's another light on and trip a warning or message ?

That should work fine, that is the option I am considering (aftermarket lights and wire them to the battery and a switch myself).

There is an IPD how-to video for a boost controller, search youtube. This video will show you how to snake cables from the trunk to the interior thru the drivers door/fender area.

I had to replace one of the fog lights in our 02 XC (thanks honey for running into that ice bank), it was $89 for the entire light housing. It bolted right on. I would check on line dealers, local dealers, salvage yards for Volvo stuff, get the best price, then decide if you want good Volvo lighting (mostly Hella for an 02) or aftermarket stuff youll pay almost as much for.

The factory fogs on the 850 sucked, the ones on the 02 XC and our S80 work well.

I just got an 04 S60. I was playing with the fog lights last night and I have the switch for rear lights but nothing came on. Where are the rear lights located? It was dark and raining so I didn't want to look very much.

From what I understand there's only ONE Yellow light on the left side, like a turn signal light on. All Volvo's that have rear fogs have only one on the left side!! Even my son's 2011 and 2012 V's only have one on the left.. Its more of a "see me" thing. To me there not really useful.
