Front tire rub/Rough ride on 06 S60
New guy here. I searched the forums and found some good info but nothing that specifically answers my questions.
I have a 2006 S60 2.5 AWD w/ 42k When I make a sharp left hand turn the passengers side tire rubs on the inside wall. It's rubbed so much already that the paint is gone from the metal!
In additional to this there's a very noticeable vibration when I reach highway speeds. It's worse when I turn slight left or right.
I took it back to my dealer because it's still under warranty. They had no answer for why the tire rubs and they said the vibration was from a broken cord in one of the tires or that my rims are bent. I replaced the tires and had the rims checked out. The problem still persists.
Anyone have any ideas on what my problem is? Your help is appreciated as I'm at my wits end with this car!

Just an update on my problem with the tire rub and vibration.
The rubbing is a known problem apparently and like the previous poster stated, there is a fix for it that severely limits your cars turning radius.
As far as the vibration is concerned, my right front wheel bearing was shot and needed replacement. Even though a month and a half ago my dealer said "everything checks out fine", that ended up being the problem.
It was covered under warranty but I'm still upset that I was told to buy new tires when that wasn't the problem.
All in all the car once again drives like it should. I doubt I'll keep it around much longer though.

The tire rub is very common on S60s & V70s, especially with the 235 width tire. People complain about it all the time. Its not doing any harm, however. The metal plate is there for that reason. As far as the hub goes, this is a common problem on several Volvo platforms. S60 AWD's usually need 1 or both front hubs replaced before 100k miles.
If I were you, I would re-consider your decision to rid yourself of the S60. In my opinion, it is the best car ever made by Volvo. '03 and up S60's have almost no problems besides the common Volvo failures (hubs & end links).

Half way through reading this thread, a light went off in my head *BLING*
I just bought a "previously enjoyed" 2006 S60, and noticed almost immediately that the turning radius was very "restricted" In fact, it's very hard to fit into some parking spaces.
I assumed it was just the design of the vehicle and just decided to live with it, but is likely a result of the previous owner having this service done to prevent tire rub...

tires rubbing wheel well
I'm so glad I found this site because a mechanic had me convinced that my tires were rubbing because my frame might be bent. So glad to hear it's a common problem and not a big deal other than it may wear the tires out a little sooner. It is odd how when I had the pirellis it didn't do that though? I drive a 2004 S-60 2.5 turbo and it's the best car I have ever had. It handles great, it's a comfortable drive, it's super safe and of course it's sleek n sexy!

6 mm spacers from IPD will eliminate the tire rub and allow you to remove the "fix". Be sure to get the longer wheel bolts, the ones from Ipd however are not chrome and the bolt haed is 17mm not 19mm I felt it was a reasonable comprimise to get rid of the rub and decrease the turning radius.

Fixed this prob on my 03 by replacing the stopper w/ a w/ a bolt on rubber bumper similar to those found on the engine compartment. I had to drill a hole on the center or the metal pc. that bolts to the rear of hub and attached that improvised rubber bumper w/ a 10mm bolt and nut w/ washer. Works perfect and saved a lot. Hoope this helps
