Default Heater control unit bank one - what is it

My wife got home tonight and the CEL was illuminated. The CEL worries women and she was not in good spirits.

I cleared the code and darn I can't remember the number but the words on the code reader were heater control unit bank one.

What is it, where is it.............etc.

Yes I think it was a P0030 code. Yesterday was a torrential down pour day. Sixty miles south in Baltimore, MD they broke a record for the amount of rain.

I wonder if some water got into the connector? I drove the car and the no code.

Possible, but usually when the code is for the heater circuit, its the sensor. The heater is built into the sensor.

It has now thrown the P0135 which is still part of the O2 circuit.

I don't do O2 sensors because I don't have that little tool. I did notice that the Avg. MPG was down to 23 and she usually averages above 24.

I may attempt it if it is indeed the top one. I helped my friend do one on an older explorer and that thing was seized on so tight that it took the torch a long time to get it loose. I'm really getting lazy.

I took a drive and stopped the car, started it and no code. Came home stopped the car, started it and it threw a code.

Cleared the code in the driveway, did a stop, re-start about 4 times and no code. I guess the O2 sensor is getting as lazy as me? Maybe it is time to check out the prices on IPD?
