Default How to fix or replace indicator (blinker/turn signal) relay on 2002 S60?

I have a right hand drive (UK) 2002 S60 and the blinker/indicator relay (or whatever creates the "tick-tock" noise when indicating) has been intermittent, too fast, or temporarily failed completely, for some time now. I have an MOT coming up and need to get it fixed.

The bulb is fine, and it's only affecting the left hand indicator, the right hand works fine. After watching a Youtube video of someone replacing the indicator relay switch on their (newer) S40 I've been trying to locate something similar on my S60 and removed the panel below the steering wheel (/above the pedals) but no relay switch in sight (as I'd hoped to just pull out and replace).

Putting my hand against the glass/plastic covering the speedo dials I can feel the ticking of the left/right turn indicators so assume they're somewhere behind that, but no idea how to gain access and I can't find any videos or instructions online on how I might do this.

Any advice appreciated, the car isn't worth much so I don't want to spend more than it's worth getting this fixed! Thanks.

Your car does not have a replaceable turn signal relay. It's part of the DIM (instrument cluster). Yes, years ago a turn signal relay/flasher unit was a common replacement - but not on your 02 Volvo.

If you only have a problem with the left side - The Front turn signal socket is a known failure item. To verify that you could try swapping the left and right and see if it follows the socket. (yeah, they are not easy to get to!)

Thanks. If it was the socket would that cause the ticking (i.e. the actual part in the DIM) to also be intermittent or fail temporarily, and stop the rear indicator light also? (i.e. rather than just affecting the front light bulb itself for example)

Answer the question by swapping left to right or replacing the socket.
