Default Intermittent AC problem

Hello, I am having an intermittent AC problem I thought I would ask everyone here about my problem. My AC works great usually. But I sometimes have a problem of the fan working hard but not blowing hard. What I mean is that I have the fan at 100% and I can hear it at 100% but the air blowing out of the vents is at best at the first setting. It is still cold (very cold) but very low flow. I can usually shut the engine off for a few minutes and back on again and it works again. It does not matter if the air is moving to the defrost vents, the dash vents, or the floor vents. The air is still at a low flow. I have a 2003 S60 2.4. Any guesses will be appreciated. Thanks.

You could have a bad evap. temp sensor. If the sensor is bad the evaperator is freezing up causing the drop in air flow.
Next time it happens just switch off the A/C button and leave the blower on and see if the air flow changes after about 1 to 2 minutes. If so then most likely the temp sensor is bad.

Thanks. I will try that. Any idea on how much both parts "should" cost and how long both repairs "should" take?

Thanks again.

Temp sensor I think is like $80.00 and it should be about 1/2 hour labor.

Thanks again and you were 100% correct. By switching off the AC portion, the air velocity increased and then I could turn the AC back on and it was great. Where is that temp sensor located? Is this a relatively easy fix or should I spend the 1/2 in labor and parts for the work at my local Volvo place?

I just wanted to save the "hard" stuff for them.

Thanks again tech.

It may not be the Temp sensor, is your climate controll ECC?? if so is it on AUTO? that means the fan adjusts according to incar temp and the temp you have selected..

Well, I would have thought the same thing with the ACC but when I override the ACC and set the fan speed at 100% power, the fan velocity is still not there. tech's troubleshooting technique did exactly what he said it would. But thanks.

The temp sensor is under the dash on the drivers side.
Remove the lower dash panel 2 T-25 screws to remove the panel.
Then look to the right under the dash. There should be a white sensor in the side of the climate box. It will just pull out to be removed.I believe the plug is green.

Install new sensor and you will be good to go.

Thanks again tech. is that the sensor that controls the automatic temperature control or a different sensor? I am just asking for knowledge not to be a pain in the a**.

It only monitors the Temp. at the evaperator.
