Default IPD ECU upgrade

I have a 2004 s60 2.5T and just ordered the IPD ECU upgrade for it. I will leave the stock exhaust. When I talked to IPD they said an exhaust upgrade on my car was not as necessary since the car already has the same exhaust diameter as the T5 models. They said that the gains would be almost all of the 245 horse and 310 lbft that the stage one package would deliver.

Has anybody on this forum done this upgrade and if yes are you happy with it?
Thanks

You'll be extremely happy with iPd/MTE's tuning!

I have iPd's Stage II tune with supporting mods on my S60R and there Stage I tune with supporting mods on my 854R.

I love there tunes, and am extremely happy with there service.

All in all, I'd do it all over again in a heart beat.

With IPD you cant go wrong they are for sure the premium Volvo performance parts for the average guy.At 245HP the improvement will be great .The only suggestion i have and take it for what its worth get the EST Hi-Flow intake if you have stock box now.The intake really allows the turbo to spool up Fast and it also keeps the turbotemps lower.Plus You get the benefit of that R Turbo sound .GL and congrads on the Mod i have Rica stage 1(should have gone with IPD) and its like a drug once you get started.More speed better handling the S60 has so much potential that Volvo over looked. You will Love it.My tune really brought my car back to life and driving on the Highway with what looks like "soccer Mom"car and i take off like i was shot out of a gun.LOL crazy how much faster the car will feel. Enjoy

I did upgrade the ECU today. I went with the softloader approach as opposed to sending the ECU to IPD for them to load the upgrade. Between ordering the upgrade, receiving the first software that reads the car data, sending the read out and finally receiving the ECU upgrade based on the read out it took almost 10 days. Overall cost was $895 not cheap but the software I received also enables me now to read and clear all the error codes (engine, SRS,...). I am happy with the results. I took about 40 to 50 miles for the car to get the full output of the upgrade but the improvement in torque and power is obvious. The car is much more fun to drive.

I don't think the ECU upgrade prevents from doing and air intakes or exhausts upgrade. My 2 cents on the air intake upgrade though is that it does not upgrade performances IMO, at least that is my experience on two previous cars (bimmers) on which I had put an CAI. The suction sound of the CAI was kind of cool but I could not see any noticeable perf improvement and actually my mpg went down a couple of points in both cases. In my opinion I believe that the ECU upgrade on the S60 is a best bang for the buck. Very easy to do and get you an immediate additional 20 to 30 (or even more) HPs depending on your S60 model.

I am curious about a comparison between RICA, IPD, and Elevate ecm tunings. What are the pros and cons of each. They're all about the same price, and I'd like to get at least stage 1 tuning next summer on my 04 R.

They all have similar peak HP and torque ratings, and [of course], each one sings its own praises while giving a list of benefits it has over its competitors...

Any info and thoughts would be appreciated .

[On a side note, IPD and Elevate both offer downpipes. Elevates is 3.5inch; IPD's is 3inch. Will there be any significant gains from that extra .5 inches??]

Right now its Rica that looks to be #1 they have available "Proven" stage 1-3 with just about any setup(supporting Mods) in between. With tunes ready to go. They also offer DTC reading and clearing form the handheld. Ipd also offers this along with data logging Elevate witch i have chargers an added $150 for the DTC add on. If i were to do it again RIca from Volvo Performance Parts & Accessories: ViVA Performance is what i would have done. George the owner drives an R himself and is a big part of the modding community for Volvo's. GL

I looked at all the chips when i first bought my car and like you have found out Scams and None of them work and may damage your engine. IPD,Rica,Elevate right now at $800ish is your only choice but keep an eye out for ARD. This a New company being started buy a e X employe of IPD his name is Lucky and he has been around Volvo for a long time and really knows his Stuff. I think they will be avaible threw Snabb when he is ready with the P2 tunes.
