I just bought a 2006 S60 AWD with 85k miles. It looks like this car was kept in awesome condition by the previous owner. After doing some searching most people here recommend the timing belt and tensioner replacement and a trans flush. I looked at the accesory belt and they are new but i have no way of knowing how the timing belt looks. I have access to a shop (i.e lift, air tools etc.). How hard would you say the timing belt job is to do? Thanks in advance

 

rec t-belt change interval is 105K miles, so you are good for now. Change it around 100k.

Do a drain and refill on the tranny fluid now(takes about 3.8 qts), and every 30k miles and you'll be good.

 

Thanks jda2000 but I think I still wanna do the timing belt. 80 bucks in parts and free labor piece of mind. I have VIDA but I'm just wondering how long it will take realistically. Definitely gonna do the flush though.

 

you have to replace the tensioner and idler pulley at the same time as the t-belt.

 

Even though the Timing Belt isn't bad yet, you should just get it done for peace of mind. If you want to check the timing belt if it has been replaced, you might be able to take off the upper timing cover. Also check the condition of the coolant, many people replace the timing belt along with coolant, because the water pump is also replaced with the timing belt.

There is a sticky for the timing belt replacement at the top of the forum thread list. I replaced both belts and tensioners at about 85K. Parts were $130, labor was about 2x that!

 

I just did mine a few months ago and its a 4 hour or so job. Nothing special but make sure you replace the tensioner that what fails not the belt.I would also use OME only. This is not the parts you want to cheep out on.Volvo Parts, BMW Parts, European Car Parts | FCPGroton.com

 

I am a 1st time Volvo owner & don't know much about them I have been a GM man all my life.The car has 64,750 miles on it now.Time for maintance is showing up on dash.Had the oil changed about 2,600 miles ago at local auto shop but do not know if they reset the computor.How do you reset computor after oil change? I was wandering if I replace air filter if this might solve problem?

• The service reminder indicator lamp illuminates for 120 seconds when the ignition is first switched on
• Insert key and turn Ignition Switch to position I
• Press and hold in the reset button for the trip odometer
• Turn the Ignition switch to position II (within 2 seconds)
• Hold the reset button for the trip meter pressed in until the original trip counter value blinks and is redisplayed
  (For all vehicles 2003- a general yellow lamp will light when the reset button must be released.)
• Release the reset button for the trip odometer within 4 seconds. The instrument gives an audible signal when resetting has succeeded
• If the trip meter is already reset the reset button should be held in for a minimum of 10 seconds and a maximum of 14 seconds.
• If the reset button for the trip odometer is not released within 4 seconds, the service reminder indicator (SRI) is not reset.
