I'm looking to spend around $10k to $11k for an S60, either 2.5T or T5. Any words of wisdom when it comes to evaluating each vehicle? Some have high miles. Anything I should pay attention to regarding mechanical condition?

What year(s) are you looking at?
Define high miles please, although maint. of course is more important than miles.
Since both are turbo, look for sludge problems. I'd find reputable indi shop and have them go over the car, could be well worth it. Even when it comes to negotiation on the vehicle. Make sure they check compression even if it cost extra.
Good luck

Thanks for the response. In my price range, the mileage on these vehicles ranges from about 50k up to 100k. Are there "key" maintenance items that should have been done? Timing belts? Tranny service? Other things to watch out for?

Actually both, if the TB was changed - extra b onus, if tranny needs fluid change, there's very good write up in how-to.
But if mileage is up there close to a 100k and neither was done, makes you wonder how it was maintained in general.

I believe it is 105k, but I prefer not to follow the schedule, especially when you can see the belt after taking the cover off.
What if it was driven really hard overheated couple of times and has 104k?
I wouldn't blink an eye changing the belt on the car like this.

So, are you saying that replacing the timing belt is an easy job?
