I would think your owners manual, if you have one, will have the factory recommendations. Did you check there first? I assume your looking for personal recommendations and good experiences?

Castrol Synthetic "Edge" for engine
Toyota T-IV for Trans. (Cheapest at the dealr. $5 per quart.)

Follow directions on the "Transmission Fluid" sticky.

I got my power steering fluid from Volvo, I could not find a spec for it to allow me to buy it elsewhere. I did find there was a lot of sediment in the reservoir so it is worthwhile to clean that while you are doing it as there is no filter in the system.

You need to do what your maunal recommends. If you do not have a manual, use the one that Volvo put on line for you. Go to Volvo Information | Owners & Enthusiasts Click the owners manual link.

There is also a link there for you to register your car with Volvo in case you are not the original owner and have not had any warranty work completed. You should do that because they will notify you of any recalls and other things that you may need to know. They DO NOT send you junk mail.

I also join their High Mileage Club. They usually send you a sticker, letter, and coupons to get discounts on parts etc.

Also check your manual for fluid service intervals. Some fluid may never need replaced like power steering fluid. Draining that may cause damage. Try to remember that it can be just as important servicing the car going into summer as it is into winter.

The main fluids that you should be concerned with changing are:
- Motor oil and filter.
- Coolant
- Brake fluid.
- Transmission fluid
Fluids that should be monitored for level:
- Steering fluid
- Windshield fluid

Make sure you're timing belt and breather system has been serviced/replaced.
