Power Steering Service Warning
My wife's 2015 V60 is the bane of my existence. And I'm too proud to throw in the towel.
115k on the clock. Electric rack. Steering service warning came on twice yesterday 5 min after starts, stayed on till powered off.
Drives fine, rack feels powered fine.
In my opinion there has been some rack feedback in steering a low speed for several years.
My question, and thank you ahead of time, is what parameters does the ECU monitor to set light off?
What fails on an electric rack? Can motor be change w/o pulling rack?
I'm prepared to replace rack but want to rule out something stupid before a deep dive.
I found a random post somewhere that steering system has an auxiliary battery?
Dave in STL.

Hi Dave - Bumping this tread because I need help with the same topic.
My vehicle lost power steering a few days ago. I was able to drive the car to a Volvo dealership. The car was diagnosed with a failing power steering module. I received a quote of 5K to fix this from the dealer. Major sticker shock.
The service technician explained to me that the steering module for this particular car is only available with purchase of a new steering rack. I sent the tech this link: https://usparts.volvocars.com/p/Volv.../31360217.html
He told me the referenced module is not an exact match. Something about my car being all electric power steering (or visa/versa)What is going on here? Do I need to find a used module in a salvage yard and ask them to install it? Does Volvo corporate really not have a steering module for my vehicle? All this seems very odd to me. Appreciate your help gentleman!

Spoiler
I HATE to admit this but I found one of those "ask a volvo tech" websites today.
He recommended checking both main and auxiliary batteries, and the main was failing which is odd because it's fairly new.
With new battery, no warning lights...yet.
Mine was never depowered however, so you might be looking at the real deal. Sorry.
I found replacement racks for 800-900, I don't know if the module is included. Did you get the impression that the module was an independent brain or directly associated with rack?
I found a video on the rack replacement, it involved moving subframe. But in general terms not terrible.
5K sounds improper.
My concern with DIY was would it trigger central warnings on ECU that only a dealer could turn off. If so, the game is rigged.
