Problematic S60
Hi there!! New to the forum, I don't know why I didn't join sooner, since every week something is going wrong with the 2006 S60. I convinced the wife to buy one because I thought they were super dependable, etc etc. I am eating every word, my foot, my leg, and ALOT of S$^T from the wife!! Anyhow, had service done, long story short the scheduled maintenance caution light wasn't reset. I have tried everything I can find, in all different key positions, but for some reason, it just will not reset. The dealer is far and I am being lazy, any suggestions? I have reset it in the past, using the position I, then hold the Odom., then to key position II, blah blah, it reset, this time no.... Thanks for any advice, it is greatly appreciated..

That's the problem? service light?
Let's take a look at this handy YouTube video and give it another shot:

Now that the light is off maybe you'd like to share a bit more about the actual problems?

Maintenance light reset the only problem? I WISH!! No as stated, it is the current problem. Thanks for the video, but I tried that several times. It worked last time I needed to use it, but for some strange reason, it doesn't work now. Everything else for the moment seems to be operational. That's the reason I didn't list any other issues, but since ya asked!! Car was purchased new with 10 miles on it. It has received the title of "problematic" due to :
Interior carpeting disintegrating on the complete passenger side.
- No dealer explanation, just a replacement of the entire interior carpeting.
Passenger seat power adjustments just decided to quit.
- Many tries by the dealer to fix resulting in a new passenger seat. which led to......
- Passenger airbag disabled light on while 200 lbs person in the seat
- Sensor replacement.....THREE times. which led to....
- One replacement visit a tech decided to "clean" the leather, and did not dilute the solution, it actually cleaned the tan coloring
from the leather, which led to a new leather on the passenger side.
Next was a common problem, I was told, the interior rubberish covering on the door handles, began to "shed" and peel. Nice feature..
-New handles
I think I have replaced every light bulb, approximately 200 times on the rear of the vehicle.
- I now just order bulk.
A/C, just decided to stop working, one day.
- No dealer explanation, several attempts to repair led to a new A/C compressor.
Went through a set of tires in a year, because the front suspension couldn't be aligned properly.
- All service done through dealer. No explanation from several alignment shops, and dealer. Their words... "the computer shows its aligned, but I can see it's not." ummmm that's a problem....... Led to replacement of nearly the entire front end suspension.
One day on a small road trip in the rain, back end became erratic, and barely controllable. Pulled over, checked out things underneath, noticed
both back tires, were nearly worn down to the wires on the inside....Less than a year on the tires.. After buying, premium priced rest stop tires,
cause I didn't want to die, once back home further examination found a mysteriously bent control arm..support arm. This sits about 10 inches
higher than the chassis. They insisted we hit something, however there was no other scratches or damage in the area, or on the part itself.
Who knows.. stranger things have happened.
Sunroof motor has quit and been replaced twice.
The sunroof interior slide cover thing, apparently got dry rot on the plastic, and basically fell off into the vehicle on a trip.
- Dealer...it happens..
hmmmmmmm what else....
Oh...two radiators..
- Dealer states it's a common problem. Small cracks in the front lower right side...
Cruising' at 70 mph, car suddenly shows, reduced engine performance, and enters "limp mode" Nice feature, in case you are not
familiar, your car won't just quit, it will just go 5 mph, even with the gas pedal floored enabling you to get off the highway or out
of general traffic. I do like that feature, wish I didn't have to experience it, but it's good.
- Led to a bad MAF sensor.
Oh I'm tired... the list sadly goes on. but you get the idea. I just have never had a vehicle with so many "issues" that has less than 60 thousand miles, is driven gingerly, and well maintained, 99.9% of the time by a Volvo mechanic. Time to dump it I guess. Some issues were covered under warranty, but not nearly as many as I'd liked. Oh well.. Maybe they just don't like warm weather!

I agree. I think you have a corrupt dealer. I did a ton of research before buying my 2006 and with 50000 miles it runs perfect. Granted I've only had it 2 weeks but msn.autos.com gives it all great marks in reliability, safety etc.. Consumer Reports, Edmunds, Epinions, Kelly BB. All give high marks. Either it's a Lemon brand new out of the box or that dealer is bending you over a barrel. I would check out their BBB rating and check reviews on them.
Not apples to apples, but I have a 2001 S60 w/ 106k I bought from my nephew (who bought it new) last summer, and he spent almost $17,000 in after-warranty repairs (dealer and independent shops) before I purchased the car.
I just had to do half shafts, hub bearings, and now the ETM (THAT was under warranty at least).
I guess there are "monday Cars" even at Volvo.
Others report 200k miles w/ no problems on various year S60s.
This is my 7th Volvo, and the rest were bullet-proof.
Luck of the draw?
I am going to keep it hoping we're closer to the end of the bad luck than the beginning.

With a list like that it appears that you would easily qualify for a factory replacement or compensation under the Lemon Law. If I were you, I would be fighting tooth and nail with the corporate office insist upon it. As far as hiring a lawyer to go after them. Compelling case.
I've never suggested this to anyone on a forum so I don't typically go this course.

I have a 2004 S60R and I've been having insane problems with the fuel system. I took it to a mechanic I've been dealing with for years and when we got the computer read out it said there are recalls on 3 of the fuel system components. I took it to a Volvo dealership in Cedar Rapids, IA and they said it was the computer component and there were no recalls on the car, so they replaced the computer part. It still acted up so I had my other mechanic hook it up to read the computer and it said the fuel filter was bad so I had that replaced. Now the fuel is still cutting out and will slow enough to let me pull over and then just stop. I had it hooked up again and it came up a fuel sensor. So now I have to take it to a different Volvo dealership in Moline, IL and see what they say. I bought this as a second owner, I researched the bejeezus out of it and found no major complaints. This is making me sick.
sorry to hear you guys have been having such problems, these cars aren't perfect but generally straightforward to repair if need be.
I would highly suggest logging into a regional subsection of a volvo forum, either here, swedespeed or volvospeed and ask for reccomendations for a good VOLVO dealership in your area. When you go there, let them know you're connected to the online volvo community and came because they were reccomended.
I don't know how to explain the problems you've had been I can say that there are certainly good and less than good dealerships out there. I would complain to Volvo North America about the bad experiences and try to find a good one from other members.
I don't recommend indy shops as they are often less than qualified to diagnose these cars. even some volvo specialists aren't up to speed so it really pays to ask around and see who people are having good luck with.

Happy to say I took my 04 s60r into the Volvo dealership and got the fuel pressure sensor replaced. So far so good. Unfortunately, I can't help but wonder what's next. I drive my car (which I love to death, don't get me wrong) in anxiety. I think a big "for sale" sign is in her future =(
Best of luck.
Best of luck.
