Rear View Mirror

Rear View Mirror
I have a 2001 S60 that should have the auto dimming rear view mirror. It doesn't appear to be working. I can see that perhaps there is a sealtbelt light and a few others on the mirror. My Dodge (sorry I pull a 5th wheel) has a green light indicating the auto function is on. Should there be any lights or indicators on the rear view mirror to determine its on and working?
Thanks-
Tim

I just found a oval shape with smearing marks in my rear view mirror. What in the world is that? I tried cleaning it ,does not come off.

Since it is an auto dim mirror it uses the liquid to dim the mirror. Something inside breaks and allows the fluid to move around.

That depends on how forgiving your dad is, I suppose. If a child did that to me, there would be repercussions.
Seriously, there is some thread here, or answer in a thread, that says these
aren't "plug & play" and have to be programmed by the dealer who has access to to codes due to the fact that the mirror assembly controls the remotes.
Dad might not notice the lack of autodimming right away, but I'll wager he'd know really quickly that the key fob button didn't open the door locks.

I do not plan on taking the mirror out for ever as I do realize that it does more then provide me a way to look behind the car.
But I have plans to add an Auto-Dim Mirror to the guts of his housing and just running additional wires into the mirror. Gotta love junkyards
In the world of Chrysler I can replace almost anything I want. I once helped a buddy with a 2000 Intrepid upgrade all his wiring and computers to the 2001 model year so he could gain all the benefits of the newer model. Electronics don't scare me.
