Default rear view mirror failing?

I have a 2001 V70 T5 and it appears that the internal rear view mirror with the auto-dimming feature is failing. It looks like there is a fluid in this mirror and a clear area is appearing at the top and it moves from side to side as the car moves. Does anyone know if this means that I will have to have the unit replaced? If so, is it expensive? Easy for me to do myself? Thanks in advance. Earl.

Yes, mirror is expensive (like every other part on these cars). I let mine go and eventually it cleared up. I had a dark spot in the middle of the mirror and when you pushed on it, it move like it was fluid. I think eventually it all fell to the bottom.

You cannot replace it your self as it is a module and needs a software download to the car to make it work.
