Guys, I have a 2002 S 60 Volvo non turbo that has 103,000 miles on it.. When I start the car up in the morning and put it into reverse-- it goes right in gear-- no problem---- but when I shift it into drive it hesitates then jams in gear with a big bump. Is it time to send this car down the road?? or can I have the trans serviced to get more life out of it???? ( I would like to keep this car) Thanks Mud

 

How clean is the transmission fluid?
At that mileage it would be due for changing if it is the original fluid.
Do a drain and fill procedure. NOT A POWERFLUSH.
If you have an AW55-50SN transmission you need to use a JWS3309 spec'd fluid.
Many report much improvement and smooth changes shortly after doing a fluid change but it could also be a shift solenoid problem.
Worth getting the car checked for especially transmission related fault codes prior also.

Certain 01 and 02 Vovlo's the s60 being one of them are plagued with transmission slipping issues. You can spend $200 to have the transmission fluid replaced. More than likely it won't do anything.

Look at the thread the other member posted above. But you are either looking at a rebuild or having to purchase a salvaged transmission out of another car. I would again avoid 01 and 02 cars for the P2 Chasis (v70, S60, S80).

I went through this same situation my 02 s60 about 4 years ago. I bought a salvaged tranny out of a 03 V70.
