hello i have a 2007 volvo s60, very cold today in ct, started car fine, gear selector stuck in park, i can hear the shift lock release when i depress the brake pedal, but it doesn't seem to release the gear shift lever to go into r or drive. turned car off then to position II a couple times then started again , tried this a few times then the shift lock worked and i was able to move the shifter. is this normal when it is real cold, has not done this before. note that i can hear the release when i press the brake ?? any help appreciated

 

The same thing happened to me this morning with my 04 S60.

I am thinking of opening it up for a cleaning and silicone lube.

 

Hello, My 2005 XC70 gets locked in Park or Drive... I currently have the solenoid disconnected (out of the car). I also had a local mechanic remove the solenoid away from the mechanism but still plugged in lying away from the gear shift but still operating electronically. This year/model does not have a manual gear shift unlock button (why would a manufacturer even install such button). I am now driving with the console removed and gear shift exposed to see what happens the next occurrence as it is intermittent and only occurs once every several weeks/months at of course the worst times. Car is unsafe and cannot be driven by wife of kids with this going on.
