Default S60 Battery? Cuts out while driving

Hi all,

I bought a 2004 S60 2.5t in July when it had about 95k miles. It hit 100k at the beginning of February.
Yesterday I drove it from my home in LA back to my school in Santa Cruz (about a 6 hour drive). Took several breaks during the drive.
I was pulling into a parking space when suddenly everything shut off. I'm led to believe it was the battery because my remote wouldn't unlock or lock the trunk/doors. Turning the key did nothing; the engine, lights, and everything were just dead.
Grabbed a friend who helped me push the car into the parking space while in neutral. We were ready to pop the hood and try jumping it about 20 minutes later, however I tried the key again and the engine and everything came back on no problem. Shut it back off and started it again a few times just to make sure it worked.
I noticed the clock on the dash had been reset, as well as some of the settings on the cd/media unit in the center. We gently drove it back down the hill about a mile to his place with no problems at all; everything was responsive.
Very lucky that it didn't shut off in the middle of the freeway. Leaving it parked off-campus for a few days while I go to class. Is this thing safe to drive? Should I take the car to be inspected, and does anyone know if this was the battery or something else?
Any help would be much appreciated.

IMHO
If a car is 10-12 years old, it should be on it's 2nd battery and due for a third.

Everyone's mileage may vary, but I use 3-5 years per battery and miles don't seem to matter much.

Heat or cold are evil to a battery.

Most OEM's and even premium battery's won't warranty over two years and then pro rate from 3-5 or 6 years. The manufacturers have ZERO confidence for more than 5 years.

Thanks for the help guys. Turned out it was a loose terminal connection to the battery, tightened that up and it's good to go.
