Default S60 Howling/Whistling Noise

I have a '03 S60 AWD 2.5T and I'm sporadically hearing a howling noise. --It's a lot like the sound of someone blowing across the top of a bottle. The volume level of the howling varies and I've noticed it at high and low speeds. Some times I can even feel it reverberate through the gas pedal. I've tried increasing my speed to stop the sound, but that doesn't seem to work... Although, braking while it's making that noise seems to temporarily stop it.

ANY tips/advice would be great!
-Let me know if you need more from me. Thx!!

Does it happen all the time or only under wet conditions?

Check out this website which may explain the source of the noise. I have the same car and experienced the same noise under wet and slushy conditions. Good luck.

The conditions don't seem to really matter, it makes that noise when it's dry and/or wet out. It's pretty sporadic and hard to replicate...

I read on another post that it may be low PS fluid. I'm gonna check it out and see if that's my issue. Thanks for the link though!!

The bottle might also need to be replaced as well.

im trying to diagnose a similar problem with my car now (its coming from driver side front)... i thought it was a wheel bearing.. replaced that and the noise is still there.. i just had new tires put on so I dont think its that, but I didnt drive the car with any other tires before. next I might replace the half shaft because it seems to be making a small clicking noise when spinning the wheel back and forth when its jack up (drivers side) but its nothing urgent and I dont think a bad half shaft would make that noise but i wont know till i try.

also i'd like to replace the angle gear fluid, i dont hink its ever been done and the car is approaching 146k

the noise sound like woo woo woo woo.... when doing about 40 and you cant really notice it unless the windows are up

The power steering fluid bottle. There is a plastic tube that goes from the top where the small hose attaches to the bottle. But the piece is inside the bottle. If it falls off it can make a noise that sounds like it is low on fluid all the time.
