s60 won't start
Hi I have a 2005 s60 2.4 no turbo..steel tank..Will turn over, fire, but only for 2 seconds. No engine codes, runs smooth for that one second, but dies right away. My wife drove it to work, ran perfectly, left it in the lot for the day, came out, and it has not started since. I can spray starter fluid into the air intake, and it runs for 4 seconds instead of 2. The spark is good, and continues after failure. The RPM shows on my OBII reader, and on gauge in car which makes me believe the cam sensor or other sensors are telling the cpu the engine is turning. I have the fuel pump access cover off, and the retaining ring off so I can see the pump module but have not figured out how to remove it, or if I need to remove yet. Several questions...were is the pump relay (FFM2) which says under the SIDF on the fuse cover under the front hood. I can see relays FMA1,FMA3, etc, but unable to find the FFM relays.Do I have to remove the torx screws on the fuse asembly and lift up to find the relay?? If my pump was good, would I be able to hear it when I put the ignition to "on"? I don't have a pressure gauge yet....but the injector rail seems to have some pressure in it. If I push the needle valve down on the test valve on the rail after turning engine over, I get a little squirt of gas. Any ideas? Bad pump? regulator?
Update: Still dead, cold out there. Was able to "borrow" from Autozone a pressure tester. Little or no pressure on the rail. 6 pin connector mounted on top of access cover for fuel pump shows 12v between blue and black wires. (pins 4+5). When ignition is turned on, gives a 12v shot, then when starting, 12v constant. Believe this is connector from the pump electric module mounted on top of tank. (guess the pem takes the place of my missing FFM2 relay?) I would like to bypass pem with 12v direct to fuel pump, but I'm not sure which wires are direct to the pump. anyone have a wiring diagram of S60 2005 fuel delivery?
Another update: Wanted to check voltage going in to PEM and then the voltage coming out to the pump. I had to pull the PEM out of it's bracket where the PEM is mounted. By the way, it is mounted on the outside of the car where all the salt, sand, dust can get to it. I tapped on it, reseated the connector...nothing no fix. took voltage reading..nothing there. Tried 3 times. On the 4th try, I get 12 volts in... then on the blue wire coming out to pump, I get a reading, then I hear the pump come on for the first time in 5 days! I try starting the piece of &*%$ and vrooom..running like nothing ever happened. If I had lots of money, I'd go buy a PEM, but, for $299.00 I think I will wait for the next time!! Still not sure if it was the PEM or something before it in the circuit. I see the recalls for the S40 PEM, V70 and all the other models that had the PEM mounted out side of the car. Why not the S60?? Hope Volvo saved a lot of money...
