Default s60r CV Joint

2004 Volvo s60R with 20,000 miles.

I was rotating my tires on my volvo and it had some pasty grease (consistancy of anti-sieze, but black - which could be from mixing with brake dust) on the front left rim ID along the full circumferance. There was some on the outboard CV boot too. I wiped the boot down and I couldn't feel any tears and the boot feels new.
Are CV Joints sealed for life or is there a grease fitting? I'm wondering if the last time I had it in for an oil service if they over greased something that dripped onto the rim and got spun around. Are there any other grease fittings on the front corners (ball joints etc.) that might be the source of the paste. The car drives normally no abnormal noise and no heat difference left to right.

Regards

Doing some research. Looks like quite a few people have had problems with the CV boot clamp loosening up and allowing the axle grease to get out. I have been told it is fairly simple to unclamp the boot and spoon axle grease into it, but I’m thinking since I have 16 clamps, might be worth while taking it to a garage having the one re-filled and having them all tightened on a hoist.
