Question S60R has a hard downshift from 2nd to 1st

Hey all! This is my first post. I just bought a 2005 S60R last week and LOVE IT!!!!

But, I have 2 issues with the car so far, one is being taken care of at the dealer (broken CD changer) But the second is a little more puzzling......

When I am coming to a stop light/sign and the car is downshifting in normal D mode, there is a noticable jolt in the whole car when it goes from 2nd gear to 1st gear!

I took it to the dealer and he said the tranny looked OK, and what he did was install an updated software version for it. (Who knew that could happen!) And he said it should fix the problem.

Well long story short, it didn't. Although is seems that the jolts are not as harsh, its still there! And the real weird thing is, it doesnt always happen! Sometimes it comes to a stop normally!

Anyone else had this issue? How did you fix it? Thanks in advance!

I have had the exact same issue..however after carefull review noticed its coming from third to 2nd gear just about reaching a full Stop. After 6 months of ECM upgrades and $7000.00 of warranty work being done that did not solve the problem I took it to another VOLVO dealer who confirmed its the transmision. So Tuesday morning my 2005 R goes in to have it replaced under warranty. They estimate the bill to be 6K.

i was told by the original dealer nothing was wrong it was normal for an R to have some small issues. the second dealer laughed and hinted they clearly dont know what they are doing.

oh no! not the answer I wanted!

Well I'll pay more attention to see exactly what gear its it, but I am taking it back to the dealer this week for the stereo replacement. I'll have to re-enforce the transmission issue! Thank goodness for the warranty!!! thanks for the input!

youre right... I think it is from 3rd to 2nd gear. I was watching it when I had it in manual mode and that was when the jolt occured. It doesn't go into 1st until you come to a stop.

Did it happen to you all the time? Or when you first start driving, then it goes away?

Don't you think theres just a way to ajust the downshift timing and that would solve the problem?

well my issue was with the tranny. The dealer replaced the whole thing under warranty.... didn't cost a thing, and the problem is solved!
