Default Sitting in traffic and engine died

2002 S60 Base.

Recently had steering rack replaced. Flex pipe has a hole in it. Don't know if either have anything to do with this.

Today, sitting at a light I heard a high pitched whistle but I didn't think that it was coming from my car. Then, the engine cuts out. Restarted it without a problem but now the whistle is gone. Drove to where I was going and back again without a problem.

No warning lights on the dash.

Any thoughts.

Would that cause the engine to quit? I could see it making noise.

The flex pipe was replaced this morning so we'll see if it dies again.

I was thinking, and I'm probably wrong, that the hole could be letting too much air into the exhaust which would screw with the readings for the O2 sensor.

more commonly whistling is a symptom of a PCV system issue. If it happens again, try pulling out the dipstick to see if it stops. You can also try a "rubber glove" test to see if you have positive crank case pressure.

I haven't done the glove test in a year. Probably time to do it again.
