Default Sumitomo HTR Z III tires

Anybody have any experience with the Sumitomo HTR Z III tire on a Volvo S60, size 235/45ZR17 ?

Or with the HTR Z III on any car for that matter?

My 2009 S60 will need tires soon and I don't want to spend the $1,000 that many brands will cost for a set of 4.

The Sumitomo's are $105 each at tirerack in my size, and they are offering a $60 AMEX reward card rebate until 04/27/2012.

By the way, the Pirelli P6 tires that came with the car new are the worst tires I have ever had in my life. Noisy as hell and are pretty well worn out after only 20,000 miles. And I'm a slow driver, never cornering hard.

Thanks

Pirellis are 100x better than Sumitomo. Worst junk Chineese tire you can buy. If your going low cost, check out Dunlop Direzza or Falken.

Hi dphoser,

I have done a lot of searching since my original post, and a nice quiet tire is important to me as well.

According to TireRack.com the following two Continental tires are very quiet:

Continental ExtremeContact DW
Continental ExtremeContact DWS

The DWS is the all season version of the DW. Note that the tread patterns are very different between the two. The DWS actually has a non-symmetrical tread pattern.

I was wondering what the S in DWS stands for, thanks for the info.

I just dumped the incredibly noisy michelins ONLY on the car (2000 v40) for 18 mos....ive always driven euro cars and have always run michelins...from vw to triumph to porsche to mercedes and now various volvos...i will never buy michelin again...replaced tires after two-weeks of internet research i decided on kumho ecsta lx platinums.......super-quiet and nice ride/handling.....

I would go with the Continentals out of the ones mentioned. We have the Bridgestone Turanza Serenity's on my wife's S60...hers has the 16" wheels. They are a asymmetric as well and are quiet and handle well. When we went from the Michelin's to the Bridgestones within 1/2 mile my wife was like, "WOW, what a difference." She's is very car illiterate so when she said that I knew the difference was real.

I've had these tires on my 911/993 for several years and am very pleased with their ride, handling and quietness. Much nicer than the Pirelli Rossos that they replaced. These are one of the best values for a tire right now in this category. I am on the Rennlist Porsche forum and it has received excellent feedback from many forum users.

I will caveat my endorsement however. I put these on a Mercedes E350 and wasn't as pleased, they were smooth but not quite as responsive as I would have liked, maybe going to the 17" on the MB had something to do with it.. On my last sedan (BMW 325) I used the Pirelli Nero Zeros and they were a decent tire.
