T5 hard to start
hi,
we have a 2005 T5 with around 90k miles on it, which is becoming harder to start lately. especially when the car is cold it never starts on the first try, it only stutters (for lack of a better word), then it immediately starts normally on the second try. after that it runs fine, i just noticed a kind on vacuumish, sucking noise (again for the lack of better words) standing on the outside. the longer the time is between starts the more the problem occurs again.
the car is garaged over night, the weather is hot with typical southern humidity, and i just had a 90k mile service done.
thanks
fritz

Weak fuel pump maybe? Dirty fuel filter?
Does it happen EVERY time the car sits for a while? If so, try turning the key to on (or position II) for a few seconds (without trying to start the car) then off and then on again for a few seconds, then try starting the car. This will allow more pressure to build in the fuel lines if that is in fact the problem.
P.S. I'm a Cannondale rider myself. Love my Jekyll.

thanks MTNBKR, yes, it does it every time it sits for a while, especially first thing in the morning. i tried the starting sequence ou mentioned, but still the same - but i haven't checked the fuel filter yet.
yep, my wife and i really like our cannondales - and the volvo, of course...

i guess i haven't tried it "properly" before, but now when i turn the key to the "II" position and back a few times before i start the car it starts way better - not quite as good as in the early days, but it almost comes right up.
if this is an issue with the fuel pump, would that be covered under the volvo CPO warranty of 100k miles?
not sure if the fuel filter was changed at the recently performed 90k mile service.
thanks

I would think that the fuel pump would be covered under the CPO, but I guess you won't know for sure until you take it in.
I had quite a bit of trouble with my S60 a while back that was covered under the CPO. Repairs included a front suspension rebuild, brand new transmission at 98,000 miles, passenger side door electronic module replacement, both rear wheel bearings, and a few other things that I can't remember..
There were only two things that weren't covered: My gas door fell off and I had to buy a new hinge, and my sun roof rattles.
Overall, I think the Volvo CPO warranty is pretty good.

thanks again MTNBKR - wow, at 98000, that was close. good thing it was covered.
i was thinking of talking to the dealer and ask to check all critical things before the warranty runs out.
btw, where are you located and how is the biking going?
