Hi,

after reading the other posts about trans. fluid I went to check mine for first time (108k miles, bought it at 84k), found the dipstick, pulled it out and the bottom half is broken off. I don't think it happened just now, but its possible.
a) if it did happen just now and the bottom half fell into the trans is that bad or will it get caught somewhere down there and not cause a problem?
b) where if possible can i buy a new one?
c) how in the meantime can I check the fluid color?

Sometimes you can pull the tube and get the broken parts out.
I think it stays in the bottom. I think there is a big turn that it cannot slide through to go into the tranny.

Try FCP for the dipstick if not then Dealer.

 

same problem here, i'm off to harbor freight to see if i can find something to get the broken dipstick out. if that doesn't work i'll pull the tube and include pictures for those who have this problem too.

 

got the two dollar grabber from harbor freight got the broken end out in 5 minutes.

 

I broke mine in my 2003 C70 a while ago. I could not find anything the would fit and grab the brolen part. I tried the long finger tool but it would not open when in the tube.
The tube has one bolt that can be reach from under the car and one O-ring. After removing the tube the broked part was there sticking out of the tranny hole. I had to order a new stick so I ordered 2 sticks.
NOW... as I was changing fluid and I would be checking the stick for a while I made a temp stick out of a long plastic strap. I just transferred the markings and wrapped tape at the stopping point for proper measurment.
