Transmission swap

Transmission swap
Hey everyone, I need some advice - help.
I have a 2001 Volvo S-60 Turbo - front wheel drive w/ the standard automatic transmission. The original transmission had 115,000 miles and was no good.
I bought a used auto transmission from reputable wrecking yard with all documentation and carfax showing documented 85,000 miles. I have every reason to believe the transmission was good at the time of purchase, but did'nt actually see the transmission work/run. It has a 60 day warranty.
I had a shop install the transmission and was told by the wrecking yard that the transmission - computer had to be "flashed" in order for the swap to work. The mechanic who installed the tranny called today and had installed the transmission after changing the tranny fluid. He stated that the transmission was not working correctly.
What information can anyone provide with first hand knowledge of doing such a swap? What steps are involved - to make the swap work, such as "resetting" the computer or transmission? Any knowledge would be appreciated.

Independent "Volvo" mechanic installed transmission and apparently has'nt done a transmission replacement on this (2001) newer of vehicle. I was told by the salvage yard where I purchased the tranny that the computer would need to be "flashed" - computer software upgrade or both.
I conveyed all this information directly to the mechanic. When I spoke to him yesterday over the phone, he said that the tranny was in but that it seemed to shift roughly and he had concerns that the tranny was bad. I asked him if he had reflashed or reset the computer or done any upgrades he said no. I was under the assumption that this would be part of the insatll but now i'm learning that he does'nt have that capability.
The car is now being delivered to an authorized dealer for analysis of the computer - software to see if any improvements are achieved.
The shop I selected for install is not competent or capable to perform the computer software upgrades and I believed and even mentioned this being done and they elected to take on the job even though they don't have the capabilities to do the computer analysis.
The repair shop described the problems/conditions to the dealer where the car is going and the mechanic stated that he was told by the dealer service "guru", even before they had a chance to hook it up to their computer that i should'nt expect a good outcome and that likely no software upgrades or changes would help. WTF - why would anyone form an opinion until they had all accurate information and or test results.
Apparently the "guru" also said that the "adaptations sequence" would only be done for "maximum performance" and that it would not change the way the transmission operates? Never have I read or heard that before.
I'm starting to wonder if i'm being told accurate info from either the mechanic or the service tech "guru". For my warranty of the used transmission, I have to document and have the computer - reflashed so thats where it stands now. I hope to learn more after the testing is performed.
Sorry for the rambling - but i'm getting tired of throwing money at this car!!!!

I just called the service department at the dealership where I originally purchased the vehicle
I was told that a "reload" of the TCM - Transmission Control Module is required on either installation of a new or used transmission into my vehicle if i'm replacing the original one. I also asked about the "adaptations sequence" and the tech stated that it's also highly recommended in order for the transmission to function correctly.
I'm learning more and more and hope to provide some relevant info.

I'd have to go with the dealer and the mechanic that installed the trans. The Volvo service "Guru" is probably right, however there could be updates to your car that could help out the hard shifting. If the Dealer says its a bad transmission, get your money back from the wrecking yard (including all other install and diagnostic fees from your indie shop and the dealer).
