Transmission swap?
I need a new transmission on my volvo. My four speed w/o overdrive isn't cutting it. I'm going to college soon in another state and taking my volvo on a long *** road trip for ~9 hours of driving at 3200+ rpms doesn't sound fun or healthy. Let alone, the milage!
My transmission has no problems and I just put a new clutch kit on, what are the chances of me swapping an overdrive unit into my '76 242? Should I just go to a junkyard and find a 'low' milage transmission with an overdrive on it?

huh, if that's the case...what's wrong with the 4speed+5th OD? i imagine he has the M46...should suffice. if you wish to be more sure that it will hold out just replace the overdrive soleniods and wiring, and drain fluid and replace with quality lube.
I said 4-speed without overdrive, I'm doing about 55 at ~3200RPM
It's crazy for my car.
I don't trust automatic transmissions and even more so worried about a volvo one.
I've got an m45 I think

if you can find an m46 in descent shape, have fun. you'll probably be very satisfied with the swap, if you go with manual transmission. you can get non-Volvo: getrag, world-class t5, yada yada. up to you and your fiscal assets.
