Default turbo problem & replacement

HUGE white/grey clouds of smoke out the tailpipe. 2001 S60 T5, 120Kmiles. According to what I've read this is the turbo going out. After 15-20 minutes the smoke stops, but there is still some power loss. Questions: 1. How do I check the turbo? 2. How do I remove it for repair? Is there a procedure listed somewhere? Is the procedure simple enough that someone can postit, or do I need to buy a S60 book?

Replaceing a Turbo is a job. its gonna be hard with out a lift. You gotta remove some stuff from the bottom. and new turbos are not cheap. Might check you PCV system first. make sure its not clogged, S60's have a problem with them clogging.

Run a compression test as well to make sure it isn't a head gasket before shelling out the cash for a turbocharger.
